Quilt going to Tully.

Three of the ladies from Strathdale Quilters who are helping us so much with our project asked if they could utilise some of the blocks given by our friends in the USA to make a quilt for Simone,a relative of one of the ladies photographed.Of course I agreed and this is the picture and email I just received.

I knew I had these photos somewhere. This is Lee and Ian from the Quilters Patch at Maldon with the selection of goodies for Jenny. I have another one of them looking up

There now we can see more than the top of their heads.When I saw Jenny today she was still very excited.
No parcels today, but quilted a top that was donated by Kaye and delivered it for binding. Received a donation of $90.00 for a roll of backing fabric from Janine.Thank-you janine.

 

The Shasta Lilies

The website is back up. Here is the first picture of some of the blocks from the Shasta Lilies box which was jam packed with fabulous blocks. We can see the 8 cartoon character blocks, 21 flannel baby blocks, 18 medium sized solid blocks.

Look at the hot air ballons on the fabric in the front, great for an eye spy quilt.

A full set of 40 butterfly pinwheels and matching 4 block set, 12 beautiful picture blocks of baby

These very cute sunbonnet Sue  blocks ready to make into a georgous quilt for a little girl.

These lovely blocks that will combine something like this.

These georgous pink and purple stars and miscelaneous blocksI think they have been put down as crazy quilt blocks.

Pieced butterfly blocks, little boy blocks and miscelaneous pieced blocks.

These lovely blue and yellow and cream blocks ,you can see the signature on some of them. There are 55 blocks of various sizes in this set..

A set of 38  grey -green and cream blocks made and signed by each member of the Shasta Lillies. Nine patch blocks enough to make a quilt.

There are 2 more pictures to go biut I am running late for a workshop. I will resume later today.

Friday.

Hello all.Today I have been madly quilting the 1950's housedresses and i am on the last border  YAY!! Then to some serious e2e quilting for customers and flood project. The package I picked up from W.A. yesterday was from  I Bradbury with a heap more rail fence blocks from the girls at meadow springs.Before I could post pictures many of them have been taken off to be joined into tops by the girls from Busy Bees. I will get pictures of the finished tops for you. I also got a package from P.Lancaster of Hurstville N.S.W. which contained a mixture of lovely blocks. They have also been incorporated into some stacks to make up tops .I am soo sorry about pictures. I will not open the pack at a working bee without taking a photo first as this is my record.and I know you all love to see them too.
When visiting the P.O. today I received a parcel from Sharon L of Crescent Head,N.S.W.

There are two beautiful finished quilts -knee rug size . and two finished tops ready for quilting.

also in the package was

10 blue and gold sea themed rail fence blocks. ready to turn into a cute seaside themed quilt. and numerous orphan blocks.

I received an email from President Carol of Strathdale Quilters today,reminding me of the working bee in Bendigo on Wednesday. I will be there with bells on!!

I am going to Melbourne tomorrow for the weekend. My grandson is being christened on Sunday and we will have a family gathering. I will be home on Monday and back to blogging.

Tuesday 9th February.

Dear friends.
The weather is nice here today .It is supposed to reach about 25 degrees. That is a good temperature for me,I don't like it too hot these days.LOL.
I had a couple of ladies from my friendship group out today and we had a look through what has arrived already and what came today. Ideas are going through our heads like wildfire of what to do with each lot of blocks that come in.

Today Kaye H from Maryborough donated

These three lovely baby quilts. Thanks you again Kaye.I know they will be well loved.

Then we opende the mail there were these lovely blocks from 



Rita T ,of Corlette,NSW. thank-you to you Rita,they are colourful and will be very handy

My long time friend Liz I from Queenscliffe,Vic.

sent us these fabulous sets of delectable mountains blocks, a set of nine patch blocks and a set of star blocks,the name of the block design  escapes me for the moment.They will get put to use very soon.Thanks Liz.  Our pile of quilts are growing and so is our stash of blocks.Great work everyone.

Monday,Monday

I went  to Gisborne yesterday and was given a pile of blocks by Lorraine B

Thank-you Lorraine, they will be very handy.

I went to the P.O. today and picked up another pile of

 packages.When I got back to the studio Iris was there,helping me with some quilting. After lunch Janet turned up and we sorted through some fabric I have for piecing and backings. Lurlene from the local paper stopped by ,the editer had seen this blog on the web. I told Lurlene the story of the orphan blocks and how the USA ladies have adopted my idea.

We opened the packages from Suzie of Paringa S.A.

This fantastic selection of orphan blocks greeted us they are lovely. Thank-you Suzie,we will have fun with these!!

 Then a parcel from Karen P. in Point Lonsdale revealed a hole pile of fence rails all cut and ready to piece.

Then from Lyn V.D of Geelong,

These beautiful,colourful  rail fence blocks and some fabric to compliment them. Way to go Lyn. We have the perfect fabric to go with the handbags and shoes !!

Sandy T all the way from Anderson,C.A.

sent us these lovely blue and white blocks .These beautiful windmill square in a square blocks kind  of remind me of Delft China.

Then we have Betty W from Tivoli,Qld.

There are some great Dora the Explorer blocks in this lot along with 1/2  sq triangles blocks,and these star blocks.

We are getting quilt a variety of blocks coming in.

Marie K. of Chesapeake V.A. sent us another pile of orphans of all shapes and sizes.

Margo B from Merseylea sent us these

very colourful rail fence blocks.I can just see the beautiful quilts now. Thanks again to all  of you out there busily sewing away to help our cause.

My Saturday.

Today I was in my studio quilting an e2e and reading emails.I have had some lovely emails. I am trying to answer you all.I think I will need a secretary,any volunteers? LOL.


                                  
 Along comes Kaye H who sits with me for the day and hand sewed  the final rows of a quilt top together and put the borders on then Kaye handed it to me and said take this for the flood quilts. It is lovely ,thanks kaye.

In the meantime another friend also Kaye  dropped by and handed me a beautifull finished quilt for the stack.

I love sampler quilts,so you?
Then Kaye P produced a completed top -another sampler quilt for the cause.

This is a large top and will make some lucky person a beautiful bed covering. thank-you for your generous spirit Kaye P.

We had 50 mil( 2") of rain over night and are expecting  are expecting another onslaught of rain over the next 24 hours. We are all on flood watch again.Remember this is our dummer it is supposed to be hot and dry 40degrees celsius in the shade. Autumn and winter is yet to come. Lucky I like the rain.

Five packages arrived Yesterday Friday.

My internet has been down for about a day and a half .Now I am back on line.I went to the Post Office  yesterday and Jenny,( a staff member who is a quilter and lost everything in the floods,has three little boys and the insurance people are giving her the runaround.) said there are lots for you today .The look of sheer delight as she handed over the packages was reward enough for what we are doing. I had to let the Post Office in on it as they will get lots of mail for me I am sure.

The first package I opened was from Pocoellie,( I hope that is right) from Alturas,CA. there is a large block great for a centre of a quilt and some smaller orphan blocks.this is fun.

These beautiful vibrant rail fence blocks (85 x 8.5"sq)  have been handed to Mary to take to her friend in Melbourne.Marys friends group will stitch them into a quilt top  and her friend will quilt them on her longarm machine. We will look forward to seeing the finished quilt or quilts very soon..Thank-you to Charlotte they are beautiful. 

Then there were these beautiful cranberry and blue blocks with some fabric to add to some more blocks and help to blend in for a set . these were sent to us from Jan  in Richmond WA. I cannot believe that I am receiving packages from the USA already. It is truely amazing.Thank-you Jan.

I also received a donation of money towards batting from a guild member today.Thank-you all for making every day seem like Christmas instead of a sad time we are having a glad time.

In just a few weeks we will begin to see some of the blocks we are receiving made up into beautiful quilts. I will be photographing workshops and finished items too.
